The Healthcare and Government Practice Groups at Ungaretti and Harris LLP are pleased to present our third annual conference on the evolving law concerning Illinois not for profit hospitals and challenges to their various tax exemptions. Hospitals continue to face mounting local, state, and federal pressure to justify their exemptions. State issues are particularly in focus in light of the recent appellate court Provena decision now being appealed to the Illinois Supreme Court.

The Department of Revenue and local taxing authorities statewide continue to analyze whether to take steps to deny or revoke hospitals’ property and sales tax exemptions. Nationally, 501(c)(3) exempt hospitals face reporting and transparency initiatives spearheaded by Senator Chuck Grassley and the IRS.

Further, if the proposed Illinois Constitutional Convention passes on the November 4th ballot, we will devote time to a discussion of the convention’s potential implications for hospitals’ exemptions. In our view, a constitutional convention holds tremendous potential for clarification in this area.

Our third annual conference will provide timely information from a diverse and regarded group of speakers, sharing their insights and viewpoints on these important federal, state, and local developments.
