Patrick J. Hanlon

Patrick J. Hanlon is a partner in Ungaretti & Harris’ Government and Healthcare Groups.

Mr. Hanlon's practice includes advocating on behalf of private and public sector clients before state and local governments and the representation of industrial and commercial property owners/taxpayers on real property assessment appeals. His specialty areas include municipal law, state and local taxation, procurement, state appropriations, and legislative and ethics law.

Mr. Hanlon previously served as General Counsel for the Cook County Assessor’s Office. In that role, he counseled Assessor Houlihan on legislative, real property assessments, budgetary and political matters. Mr. Hanlon served as a liaison between the Assessor and state and local elected officials.

Other recent experiences include:

• Primary lobbyist on the landmark legislation referred as the 7% Expanded Homeowner Exemption. This legislation helped absorb the impact of soaring Cook County residential property tax assessments. Since its authorization in 2004, the 7% Expanded Homeowner Exemption has provided an additional $1.5 billion in property tax savings to Cook County homeowners.
