News: Prestigious Marshall Memorial Fellowship Awarded to Ungaretti & Harris Partner

Chicago, February 8, 2010 – Ungaretti & Harris LLP Litigation Partner Ungaretti & Harris LLP Litigation Partner Amy M. Gardner has been selected by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) to receive one of its prestigious 2010 Marshall Memorial Fellowships.

Ms. Gardner is one of 54 emerging American leaders who were chosen for distinguishing themselves in their respective professions while demonstrating a commitment to enhancing relationships between the United States and Europe. She is one of four from Illinois and the only Illinois attorney to receive the honor this year. Since its inception 28 years ago, the program has attracted more than 1,650 of the best and brightest American and European professionals.

During a 24-day European travel program, Ms. Gardner and other Fellows will explore political, economic and social institutions and issues impacting the United States and Europe. They will meet formally and informally with policymakers and prominent members of the business, government, political, non-governmental organizations and media communities who will provide a local perspective on transatlantic and domestic issues.

Following the Fellowship, Ms. Gardner intends to use the knowledge she gains to educate Ungaretti & Harris attorneys and clients on conducting business, particularly related to commercial and intellectual property litigation matters, in foreign jurisdictions.

About Amy M. Gardner
At Ungaretti & Harris, Ms. Gardner concentrates her practice in general commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. She earned her J.D. in 2002 from the University of Chicago Law School and her B.A. magna cum laude in 1997 from Luther College. She also serves as President of the University of Chicago Alumni Club of Chicago and is the Director of Law Firm Outreach and Sponsorships and was the Founding Chair of the Chicago Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society. Her pro bono work includes on-going work as Guardian ad Litem representing children who are the subject of guardianship disputes and resulted in her receipt of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation Distinguished Service Award in 2006. Her service to the University of Chicago resulted in her receiving the University’s Young Alumni Service Citation in 2007.

About the GMF and Marshall Memorial Fellowship
The GMF’s Marshall Memorial Fellowship program includes fellows from 22 European countries and the United States. Candidates were nominated for the program by a recognized leader in the community and were required to submit a written application as well as undergo an interview by a panel of regional civic leaders and former Marshall Fellows.
