News: Appellate Court Affirms Preliminary Injunction in FamilyCare Litigation

10/03/08

Ungaretti & Harris partners F. Thomas Hecht, Claudette P. Miller and Floyd J. Perkins won a highly publicized Appellate Court ruling affirming the preliminary injunction striking down Governor Rod Blagojevich's expansion of healthcare insurance to certain Illinois adults. The Appellate was sharply critical of the Governor's attempt to by-pass the legislature and impose the program by administrative fiat.

AMNews, the newspaper for America's physicians and a publication of the American Medical Association, quoted Mr. Hecht in its October 20th issue regarding the Appellate Court ruling.

"We recognize health care is an extremely important issue for a lot of people. The question is how are we going to deal with that in a better system than we currently have?" said F. Thomas Hecht, a plaintiff attorney in the Illinois case against the governor. "How we organize health care and health care insurance is clearly a legislative task."
