Kris is a partner in the Litigation Department who focuses his practice on a range of complex commercial matters. He has represented clients in commercial litigation and business disputes, at both the trial and appellate levels, in state and federal courts throughout the country. In addition, Kris advises and counsels his clients on various business and real estate related issues in order to, when possible, anticipate and avoid disputes.
Kris’s recent experience includes:
Representing clients in matters involving contractual disputes and business torts throughout a broad range of industries.
Representing officers, directors, and shareholders in derivative litigation.
Representing gaming clients with various licensing and compliance issues and in administrative proceedings.
Representing product manufacturers, distributors and premises defendants in product liability litigation in state and federal forums throughout the country.
Representing policy holders in insurance coverage disputes including successful prosecution of a coverage action involving claims of business interruption and property damage.
Representing a plaintiff in a federal antitrust action and related representation before the Federal Trade Commission.
Successfully defending a catering business and its principal from a criminal investigation brought by the Illinois Department of Revenue related to gross receipts and sales taxes for concessions sold at sporting events.
Advising landlords and tenants with respect to commercial leasing negotiations and disputes.
Favorably prosecuting, defending and resolving a series of commercial lease disputes between the owner of a historic Chicago office building and certain tenants that has allowed the owner to proceed with its anticipated $130 million redevelopment of the building.
Advising sellers and purchasers in the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate assets and related disputes.
Obtaining dismissal, at both the trial and appellate levels, on behalf of one of the nation’s largest residential developers regarding claims of specific performance and breach of contract.
Successfully defending claims of breach of contract and foreclosure of mechanics liens on behalf of a landowner and developer related to a prominent commercial development in Chicago.
Defending and favorably resolving two lawsuits involving over sixty mechanics liens on behalf of the defendant owner and developer, one of the nation’s largest residential developers.
Trial counsel for the owner of prime real estate over disputed usage and easement rights.
Representing property management companies with respect to contractual and statutory issues.
Advising developers and owners on construction delay and defect claims and related contract issues, including the resolution of litigation and contractor claims involving a $200+ million mixed use development on behalf of a major university.
Advising developers and landowners on land use, zoning and redevelopment issues, including a world-famous, theatrical and concert promoter on the acquisition and redevelopment of a historic landmark theatre.
Advising commercial and industrial clients regarding environmental issues including the enforcement and defense of federal and state claims related to environmental contamination arising under state and federal law and participation in cleanup programs.
