Low-income and dual-eligible residents have been complaining about the costs under the Medicare Part D program. Is there any relief I can recommend?
Facilities should first recommend that residents who need financial assistance apply for it through the Social Security Administration. Assistance is available for Medicare beneficiaries living in the United States whose net worth (other than their home) is not more than $11,500. Residents exceeding these requirements should contact their state Medicaid agency for further information about possible eligibility.
Medicare is continuing to work with Part D plans to ensure that low-income beneficiaries receive medications at the appropriate rates. For instance, Part D plans are required to establish special units accessible through their pharmacy help lines to assist with cost-sharing approval for low income beneficiaries.
